Frequently Asked Questions

From “What time does it start?” to “Can I wear a fancy dress costume?”, here are answers to some of the most common questions about the Thame Sportive.

What time does the event start?

  • The first riders will set off at 8:00 AM. Specific start times for each route will be confirmed closer to the event.
  • The Family Ride is due to start at 1:00pm.  We’ve scheduled it for this time so that families have the chance to enjoy the annual Duck Race beforehand.
  • Where does the event start and finish?
  • The event starts and finishes in Thame Town Centre, where there will be a registration area, food stalls, and entertainment for spectators.

What routes are available?

  • Family Ride (13km) – A relaxed, family-friendly route suitable for all ages.
  • Intermediate Ride (80km) – A scenic route into the Chiltern Hills for experienced riders.
  • Advanced Ride (130km) – A challenging course for seasoned cyclists with significant elevation changes.


How do I register for Thame Sportive?

  • Registration is available online. Keep an eye on our Registration Page for updates and early bird offers.

 Can I register on the day?

  • Unfortunately, registration will close before the event, and there will be no on-the-day entries.

Sign-On Details
Riders can sign on at Thame Town Hall, conveniently located next to the event start.
The hall will be open for sign-on at the following times:

  • Saturday, 14th June: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Sunday, 15th June: From 7:00 AM onward

Make sure to collect your rider number and get ready for an unforgettable ride!

 Is there an age limit?

  • Family Ride: No age limit, but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Intermediate and Advanced Rides: Minimum age of 16.


Parking Information

Ample parking is available near the event start to ensure a smooth experience for all riders. We recommend arriving early to secure a spot and give yourself plenty of time to prepare. Please follow the signs and marshals directing you to designated parking areas.

Key Details:

  • Parking is free.
  • Avoid parking on residential streets to respect local residents.
  • Thame Town Hall and the event start are within a short walking distance from the main parking area.

We should have Extra Parking on the Southern Road recreation ground, This will be weather dependent.


What should I bring?

  • A roadworthy bike, a helmet (compulsory), and weather-appropriate clothing. We recommend bringing water, snacks, a phone, and basic repair tools.

Will there be feed stations on the route?

  • Yes! Feed stations will be available on the Intermediate and Advanced routes with water, energy drinks, and snacks to keep you fueled.

What happens if I have a mechanical problem on the route?

  • Mechanical support will be available at the start/finish area and along the route. Also there will be a contact number on the back of your number in case of an emergency.

Is there first aid available?

  • Yes, we’ll have professional first aid teams at the Start/Finish area and mobile medics along the routes. Also there will be a contact number on the back of your number in case of an emergency.


Can family and friends come to watch?

  • Absolutely! Spectators are welcome at the start/finish area in Thame Town Centre. There will be food and activities to enjoy while waiting for riders to return.

Are dogs allowed at the event?

  • Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome at the start/finish area, but we recommend avoiding crowded areas for their comfort.


Can I wear a fancy dress costume?

  • Yes! Fancy dress is encouraged for the Family Ride – just make sure your outfit is safe for cycling.


Will the event be timed?

  • Yes, official timing will be provided for the Intermediate and Advanced routes.

When will the results be available?

  • Results will be posted on the website within 48 hours of the event.
